Family Fun at Royston & District Museum & Art Gallery

We have an exciting programme of activities for the summer holidays planned, which have been designed with children and families in mind:

Royston Stone Age Day

  • Stone Age Fun Day Saturday 18th July, 10.30am-3.30pm

Step back in time and make your own coil and thumb clay pots as our prehistoric ancestors would have.  Create your own cave painting.  Part of the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology.

Free Admission, £2 per child for craft activities.  Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.

  • Crafty Wednesday: Animal Art, Wednesday 29nd July, 10.30-12 noon        

Animal themed craft activities for kids.

Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.  £2 per child.

 

  • Toddler Music and Dance, Friday 31st July, 10.30am -11.30am

Carrie Washington from Dance Digital leads a toddler music and dance workshop themed around the collections.

Free Admission, but spaces limited so please book with the Museum in advance.

  • High Street Exhibition (1-day exhibition): Youth Members, Saturday 1st August, 10.30am-4pm

Craft activities at Royston MuseumPut together by the museum’s Youth Members, this one-day exhibition will look at what shops used to be on the High Street and how it has changed over the years.  Old photos, collection items and more will be available to look at.

  • Kite Festival @Royston Heath Sunday 2nd August, 10.30am-4.30pm

Come and visit us at our Friends of the Museum stall at the Kite Festival and have a go at the treasure hunt game and lucky dip.  Stunt Kite demonstrations on the Heath and lots more activities.  For more information go to www.roystonkitefestival.com

  • Crafty Wednesday: Collage and Printing, Wednesday 5th August, 10.30am-12.30noon  

Create collages and use a range of printing techniques.

Pirate themed craft activities for kids.

Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.  £2 per child

  • The Vikings are Coming! Saturday 15th August 10.30am-3.30pm

Royston MuseumViking re-enactor group and Viking themed hands-on activities and crafts to take part in.  Grind flour using the rotary quern, make a Viking longboat model, write your name in runes and produce your own Viking style brooch to take home.

Admission Free, £2 for craft activities.  Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.

  • Crafty Wednesday: Dinosaurs, Wednesday 19th August, 10.30-12.30 noon

Dinosaur themed craft activities for kids.

Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.  £2 per child

  • Crafty Wednesday: Painting, Wednesday 26th August, 10.30-12.30noon

Splat the paint and get artistic with our paints and assorted craft materials.

Drop-in session, no need to book in advance.  £2 per child

Royston Museum is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10am – 5pm

Royston MuseumThe Museum is located on 5 Lower King Street in Royston.  The Museum is a 5-10 minute walk from both Royston Town Centre and Royston Train Station.  By car it can easily be accessed from the A505 or A10.  The nearest car park to the museum is on Princes Mews, with further car parks at the Town Hall (King James Way) and the Warren.
